April’s Traffic Report

|

Billie Geena

As you might have read in March’s traffic report; I set some pretty high goals for myself.

I planned to:

  • Make 10 pins every day
I was really consistent with this until the 26th of April, where I didn’t have time to schedule anything
  • Share 3 blog posts on Twitter a day
I also completely forgot to do this. I think I did it for maybe 3 days in the whole month
  • Post on Instagram twice a week
I did not stick to this goal
  • Publish a blog post every Saturday
This was the only task I consistently hit, I also had some bonus posts that went out on Wednesday.

I wanted to see the following results:

  • Hit 2000 followers on Twitter
  • Achieve over 1000 monthly views on Pinterest
  • Improve on last months traffic by 30%

What I actually achieved:

Twitter

I managed to exceed my goal of 2000 followers.

I gained 254 followers in April, which took me to 2173 followers. I have done this by being active, speaking to other accounts and just genuinely sharing whatever interests me.

Pinterest

I knocked this one out of the bag. I wanted over 1000 monthly views and I got nearly 24,000. I did this by actively posting. Each Sunday I scheduled 10-15 pins each day. Which led to 323 engagements and 55 outbound clicks.

Blog Traffic

I wanted to be up by 30% across the board. I absolutely smashed this. Pageviews were up 515% taking me to 3,268 compared to last months 531. It was amazing, but it wasn’t anything clever I had done with advertising. I wrote a blog post about core web vitals that kind of took off in both the blogging and SEO communities. It was an absolute win.

The blog got shared by John Mueller, a real big wig in the SEO worlds, and featured in various industry news sites and newsletters. Without that, this could have never happened.

LinkedIn, direct and Twitter were my biggest traffic drivers. I had never thought about sharing my blog on LinkedIn before but I will be doing this more in the future when I write industry-specific articles.

Keywords

In March, I ranked for 200 keywords according to Google Search Console. As of the 30th of April, I rank for 460. This doesn’t really mean much as it means I appear somewhere between #1 and page 30. I count ranking as anything under page 10.

I pay to monitor more specific keyword movements, and these are my biggest ones.

My biggest priority is to see ‘Core Web Vitals’ move back up as it has dropped 62 places in the last week.

Email

I have added a newsletter sign up to my blog, which has been there since February but I have signposted better. I gained 5 new subscribers. I will be sending my first email blast out in May.

So my plans for April are to:

  • Make 10 pins every day
  • Share 3 blog posts on Twitter a day
  • Post on Instagram twice a week
  • Publish a blog post every Saturday

My stretched goals are to:

  • Hit 2500 followers on Twitter
  • Achieve over 50,000 monthly views on Pinterest
  • Maintain last months traffic
  • Have 10 Newsletter signups

Check back next month to see how I did!
