Exploring Plitvice Lakes | Photo Diary

During the lockdown, I have spent a lot of time thinking about the amazing places I have being lucky enough to visit. I thought I could share my experiences with my lovely readers through photo diaries.

Way way way back in 2017, I had the pleasure of getting to explore Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia with my Mum.

I booked a trip to Zadar to celebrate her 50th Birthday and I really wanted to make this holiday really special for her. One of the things I really wanted to do was to visit the Plitvice Lake National Park.

Honestly, it was the most beautiful place I have ever visited.

Plitvice Lakes National Park, is made up of 16 breath-taking lakes, loads of waterfalls and spans over 300 square kilometres. Everywhere you turn there is so much beautiful scenery.

The whole area is protected so steps are not taken if a river is blocked, the rangers allow the nature to make it’s own routes. So the route you may go on today, could be completely different to when I visited.

Whilst very beautiful, I would not recommend visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park if you have limited mobility. Much of the trail has bumpy dirt baths and wobbly wooden bridges, examples are below.

If you opt for a guided tour, which I seriously recommend, you will be warned about the wildlife. As Plitvice Lakes National Park, is home to bears, wolves, boars and more! It’s unlikely you will come across anything.

I loved my visit to Plitvice Lakes, I honestly doubt I will ever visit anywhere as beautiful. I hope this inspires you to one day visit, after the pandemic is over of course.

  1. Oh wow, I’ve never heard of Plitvice Lakes before but after seeing your pictures, I need to get out and see it first hand! My husband and I are both big outdoor travel lovers, spending as much time as possible exploring the beauty of the great outdoors – so this is right up our alley!
