The First 2 Weeks In Our New Home | Monday Musings

Billie Geena

So we have lived in our new home for two weeks now. Towards the beginning of September everything got a little crazy, the whole moving process began to accelerate, we had given the notice to leave the house we rented at the time and thought we had plenty of time.  We gave them 5 weeks notice.

Our plan was to get the keys to our new home and have a couple of weeks to paint before moving our things in. We thought we could get so much done then we could clean our old house before returning the keys. It would work like clockwork.

Then radio silence happened.

In our whole moving process, we were so lucky as we struck up a friendship with the vendor. If we had any issues we could drop them a text and vice versa. Honestly it made the whole process so much easier, our communication were amazing. I honestly don’t think my anxiety levels could have done this without having such strong communication.

We *finally* had a great solicitor who always got back to us and really strived for an early completion day for us. We had sent over our funds for the house, we were so close. We only had to wait on one indemnity policy to be completed then the vendor’s solicitor dropped off the face of the planet.

They wouldn’t answer emails, return calls not to their client, not to my solicitor, not to anyone! It started to get really nervewracking. For three weeks we heard nothing at all.

The date we had to leave our rented property grew closer and closer, we were supposed to have our keys three weeks ago and had to start thinking of contingency plans. For myself and self-admitted worrier, I feared we would become homeless. That would never be the case, we would have been able to stay at mine or my partner’s parents but still, I stressed none the less

Three weeks of me constantly chasing everyone I could for an update.

Then on the 5th of October, we got hold of her. We did it.

Everything started to at a million miles an hour. By that afternoon we had completed. I could get the keys the next day if I wanted to. Which I did.

So after nearly a month in purgatory, it all went mad. We didn’t, and still haven’t stopped. It is mad.

Our home is a mess, there are boxes and bags everywhere. I don’t know why we have so much stuff, it’s crazy.  But our messy home is our home and it is starting to feel like it.

We’ve painted three of the rooms, all of which still need another layer, or tidying up around the edges. It’s so exciting.

They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, and they don’t lie. We’re lucky to have had such a straight forward time with it. Still, I have never felt so tired in my life, but every day I’m so pumped to get more done. I am genuinely so excited to start sharing our little home with you all.

My partner and I are homeowners, and I just can’t believe it. I keep quoting Mufasa and saying that “everything the life touches is ours”. Which it is, if my house falls down it’s my problem, not a landlords. Oh, that’s really scary actually…

Whilst I am working on content at the moment, I have too much to do to get into a routine of posting regularly.

  1. Congratulations on getting a new home!!! I know that’s exciting. I’m so glad it’s starting to feel more like a home now. I love the part where you quoted Mufasa (the lion king is one of my favorites) but also it is pretty scary that it’s your problem and not the landlords 😂 something to think about before buying a home haha
