Hey, I’m Billie.
I’m an SEO and marketing person who has been on the internet for a slightly worrying amount of time.
I started dabbling in SEO in 2013, properly dedicated myself to it in 2018, and I’ve been making websites more visible, useful and occasionally less annoying ever since.
These days, I’m the SEO Lead at Tutorful, where I’ve spent the last 18 months running the organic strategy across the business.
One of the things I’m particularly proud of? Getting Tutorful’s organic customer acquisition cost down.
I’ve worked across technical SEO, strategy, content, accessibility and ecommerce, but I’ve always been particularly drawn to education, edtech and ecommerce. I like businesses where search can genuinely help someone find something they need, rather than simply convincing another person to buy a thing they didn’t know they wanted.
Before SEO became my full-time obsession, I was a copywriter. For nearly three years, from 2016 to 2019, I wrote obituaries.
Yes, actual obituaries.
It turns out writing about people’s lives is a surprisingly good education in writing clearly, finding the interesting bit of a story, and getting to the point.
I’ve also founded an agency, built digital products, spoken at SEO and marketing events, written for industry publications and spent enough time around the SEO industry to have developed a healthy suspicion of anyone who tells you they’ve found the one weird trick.
What I know a lot about
SEO strategy
Building organic growth strategies that actually connect to business goals.
Technical SEO
Crawling, indexing, architecture, accessibility and all the fiddly bits that make websites behave properly.
Search & AI
What happens when search changes, what actually matters, and what we’re all unnecessarily panicking about.
Content & marketing
Making things people actually want to read, rather than producing 4,000 words because somebody put a keyword into a spreadsheet.
Education, edtech & ecommerce
The industries I particularly enjoy working in, because apparently I like making search both useful and commercially useful.
I’ve also been known to…
Speak at industry events including BrightonSEO, SMX and WTS Fest.
Write about SEO, accessibility, search and marketing.
Build things.
Talk about SEO on LinkedIn far too much.
And occasionally have a surprisingly strong opinion about what everyone else is doing on the internet.
A few receipts
I’ve been shortlisted for Business Influencer of the Year twice by BCreator Magazine.
I’ve contributed to Majestic’s annual SEO in [year] publications.
I’ve written for publications including Moz and Search Engine Land.
I’ve spoken about technical SEO, accessibility, international SEO and Google Search at industry events.
And I’ve been doing this long enough to remember when everyone was arguing about whether SEO was going to die.
It didn’t.
We’re still here.
Unfortunately for everyone, so is LinkedIn.
